The above pie charts illustrate the percentage of water used for different purposes in 6 regions. Based on the using purposes and pattern, they can be divided into 2 different groups.
The first group include North America and Europe, where industrial use takes up almost half of total water use, 48% in North America and 53% in Europe. In both area, agricultural use also consumes a considerable amount of water, it occupied 39% of total water usage in North America and 32% in Europe. The least amount if water is used in domestic, it only take up 13% in North America and 15% in Europe.
And the second group consists with South America, Africa, Central Asia and South East Asia where agricultural use is the majority of water usage. Over 80% of water is used in agriculture in these areas, except South America (71%). Industrial use and domestic use are similar in Africa and Central Asia, domestic use cost 2% more than industrial use in these areas. In South America, the amount of water used in Domestic is twice of industry.
Overall, in these 6 areas, domestic use cost least amount of water and industrial use and agricultural use cost most depend on their region.
