The two maps show the current layout and future development plans for Islip town centre. Overall, the new design introduces more infrastructure, such as transportation facilities and housing, while promoting pedestrian areas for the central part of the town.
Currently, the town is structured around a main road running east-west, with shops on both sides. Moreover housing areas are located to the south, surrounding a park, and a school lies further southwest. The northern part of the town is bordered by countryside.
In the planned development, several major changes are proposed. Furthermore, the main road will be replaced by a dual carriageway surrounding the town centre, and the central area will become pedestrian-only. New facilities such as a bus station, shopping centre, car park, and additional housing will be added north of the pedestrian zone. In addition, the park will remain but be accompanied by new housing to the south.
