The maps displayed above delineate the changes Lake side underwent in a span of nine years, from 2000 to 2009. Overall, various upgrades and modifications have been made to the town’s infrastructure at the cost of more than half of the woodland.
Initially, the residential area south of the river together with the lower half of the woodland have been both demolished in order to make room for a massive industrial complex that was built over them. Moreover, the arts center building has been renovated into a multi-screen, whereas the residential center north of the lake has been repurposed as a shopping center.
The residential area northwest of the map is the only building that remains unchanged. Meanwhile, the lake shrunk so significantly that it is now considered a pond. Furthermore, the derelict warehouses were torn down and a car park was built in their stead. Additionally, old town was torn down and in its place offices and a university were erected. Finally, the school relocated slightly to west while also compacting the building into a smaller facility.
