Genetically modified food has grown widespread in the recent years and is now consumed by almost everyone around the world. Some question the safety of those altered foods and its effects on individual’s wellbeing, while others argue that is it scientifically safe to consume them. In this essay it will compare the advantages and drawbacks of genetically modified foods and justify my stance on this subject.

In recent years, people consume GM foods on a regular daily basis. Altered foods are known to be cheap. They are sold at lower prices since altered foods are filled with inorganic chemicals and is produced at a larger scale. For example, sometimes watermelons are injected with chemicals to make them sweeter and redder in color, this is specifically used to attract humans’ tastebuds as they are drawn to more vibrant and sweeter looking fruits. Moreover, Humans tend to get attached to foods that are sweet and addicting, but the withdrawl symptoms of GM foods are unknown; and usually foods with modified ingriedents do not have them labeled, allowing people to consume them at an unhealthy rate. Lastly, each government for different countries hold a different stance when it comes to its regulatory standards, resulting in different consumption rates.

Although it has many disadvantages, GM foods hold plenty of benefits such as nutritional value like vitimans, protein, etc; this can be quite beneficial since it introduces foods that can boost in things we might lack in. Thus, by eating specific GM foods you are able to get all the advanatges that you’d get from a supplement. In addition, it can improve agriculture in developing countries; after all GM foods, such as altered fruits and vegetables, require less labor and it keeps pests and bugs away due to the fact that they are only attracted to natural foods. If less pests are involved it lowers the chances of any health risks!

In conclusion, GM foods are proven to be scientifically safe to consume as long as people do not overconsume them. I agree with the fact that genetically modified crops are becoming essential to meet, however there are different ways to approach it and I believe that we should take a different route. Even thought they can reduce the problems revolving unstable supply stocks, it can greatly flourish developing countries, ignoring its many problems.
