The chart compares the percentage of fuel derived from renewable energy sources used in the transport sector across six European Union countries in 2009 and 2010, while also providing the EU average for those years.
Overall, it is clear that Slovakia consistently had the highest proportion of renewable fuel use in both years, while Greece remained the lowest. Additionally, most countries experienced an increase in the percentage of renewable energy used in transport over the period, with a few exceptions.
In 2009, Slovakia led the group with a significant 9.2%, followed by Austria at around 6.7% and France at just over 6%. By 2010, Slovakia saw a decrease to 7.8%, although it still topped the chart. In contrast, Austria’s figure dropped to approximately 5.5%, while France’s percentage remained stable at about 6.1%.
Poland showed noticeable growth, rising from 5% in 2009 to 6% in 2010, overtaking Austria in the second year. Spain also experienced a substantial increase, from 3.5% to 5%. Greece, though starting from a very low base of 1.5%, doubled its figure to 2% in 2010.
The European Union average rose moderately from 4.5% to 5%, reflecting the general upward trend across the majority of countries.
