The bar chart illustrates the proportion of fuel derived from renewable sources used in the transport sector across six European Union countries, as well as the overall EU average, in 2009 and 2010.Units are given in percentages.
From an overall perspective, the use of renewable energy fuel in transport in all countries, with the exception of Slovakia and Austria, rose slightly over the period, albeit with various degrees of growth, while the reverse was true for Slovakia and Austria. Of particular note is France, which remained unchanged in its initial position.
A similar increase can be observed in Poland, Spain and Greece. In 2009, the figures stood at 5%, 3.5% and 1% respectively. However, there was a consistent rise of 1 percentage point in all three countries, indicating that they followed an almost identical upward trend over the period. By 2010, these figures had reached 6%, 4.5% and 2% respectively.
On the other hand, focusing on Slovakia, it recorded the highest proportion among all countries, at 9%, followed by Austria with 6.5%. By 2010, both nations experienced a similar downward trend, each falling by around 2 percentage points, to 7% and 4.5% respectively. Meanwhile, the overall EU average rose from 4% to 6% over the same period.
