Band 5+: With the development of social media, more and more youngsters are being allowed unsupervised access to the internet in order to meet and chat with friends which can lead to potentially dangerous situations. What solutions can you suggest to deal with this problem?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Nowadays social media are easier to access, especially, for young generation with no proper supervision from their parents. Such behaviour is leading to some problems in their lives. This essay will present issues and possible solutions that could result in improving of existing conditions.

To begin with, lots of websites are unsafe spaces and this can be harmful to the children. In other words, youngesters have access to contents which may not be suitable for them. For instance, some websites provide +18 content and unfortunately all kids can access to them easily. Moreover, excessive use of social media especially among teenagers has caused addiction to it. For example, most of children have smartphone or tablet from young age and they are working with it for hours which had led to don’t have any physical activity during the day. In matter of fact, overuse of such devices not only affects on mental health but also causes lack of physical activity in children that can lead to abesity in them.

Furthermore, in my point of view, parents and schools play an essential role in how children use mobile phones. Indeed, parents should supervise the content that is accessible to kids, and schools should educate about use of virtual environment. For example, there are some application which can control hours and content of smart phones. Besides, parents must encourage children to devote hours of the day to sport instead of online games. Therefore by having physical activity they would be healthier both in childhood and in adulthood.

In conclusion, social media can be an unsafe environment for young people, also excessive use of it can lead to addiction and not doing any other activities. Hence, both parents and schools should monitor how kids use cyberspace.
