The bar chart illustrates the proportion of male and female who held a driving license from 1976 to 2006 and who signed up for one between 1996 and 2006.
Overall, there was an upward trend in both genders who had a driving license with the figure for male consistently higher than female throughout the period. However; the 17-20 aged group experienced a decline from 1996 to 2006.
In the first year, the proportion for male started at 70% which was much higher than females, with only 30%. After 5 years, the percentage for male remained unchanged while females significantly rose up to 35% and recorded a significant upward trend onwards. Likewise, the figure for men also increased gradually and hit 80% in the end, higher than women at 20%.
In contrast, the percentage for men began at 50% and women at nearly 30% in 1996. After that, both genders witnessed a downfall which men reduced to 45% and women dropped to 20% in the end.
