Band 7: The plans show information about the first floor of a library in 1998 and the same area now. (User-Written IELTS Writing Task 1 Sample)

The two maps compare the differences of the first floor layout of a library in 1998 and today. Overall, the library has been significantly reorganized, with more spaces for readers.

In 1998, photocopies was on the right of an entrance and opposite to a space for local reference books. In the middle of the library, there was a study table and a book display, which is between a computer area and a librarian’s desk. Back in the library, there were reference books and maps, with chairs in front of them.

Currently, the entrance remains unchanged. Walking into the library, visitors can see a new-book area on their left hand side. Opposite to the corner of new books, the photocopies has been replaced by a study room. The study table is removed and the book display has been expanded, located at the same place. The computers are demolished and the chairs have been moved there. The librarian’s desk is converted to a self-service desk and the space for reference books and maps is now changed to a coffee table.
