The maps illustrate the modifications that took place in an industrial rural area called Stamford located in England from 1985 to 2015. Overall, it can be clearly observed that over the 30-year period the area witnessed a number of dramatic changes, turning from a rural into an urban landscape.
Most noticeably of all, a number of high-rise buildings had been built in the southern area of the village, just east of the Thames River. A similar housing estate was erected in place of the field west of the river, with the field being moved further into the south. It is important to note that a number of spruce trees had been planted alongside the main road, running from north-west to the south-east of the village.
Turning to the other side of the layout, it should be highlighted that the northern area west of the river experienced even more profound changes. The three inns located just north of the road were demolished, with a path being constructed to connect the road with the new industrial zone. Further developments included the creation of a housing estate with high-rise buildings to accommodate the industrial workers.
Finally, the factory situated to the east of the river, near the steel bridge which had replaced the old wooden bridge, had been knocked down to make way for planting trees as well as relocating the inns.
