Nowadays, city planners commonly have a tendency to allocate distinct zones for shops, schools, offices and residental areas. While I believe that this arrangement does pose certain drawbacks, they are eclipsed by the benefits.
On the one hand, grouping facilities, such as shops, schools, and offices in a place can place an enormous burden on the traffic system, especially in crowded urban areas where the density of citizens is relatively high. Since such an allocation can cause a large number of vehicles to gather in a specific place and time in a day due to the close locations of establishments, it can give rise to a frequent occurence of traffic congestion, leading to many environmental issues, such as noise pollution and air pollution. However, as this mobility overload often happens in a certain location and time, it can easily be predicted by institutions, therefore, the government can experiment and propose solutions, such as inhacing the frastructure, to handle the problem.
On the other hand, despite the aforementioned drawbacks, this setup can yield certain benefits. At the individual level, because such an organization can separate living spaces from the establishments, the citizens’ living environment cannot be disturbed by detrimental factors, such as pollution, enhacing the life quality of residents, making it more livable. At the societal level, this arrangement can help increase urban management. As different types of functions in the area are separated they can be designed and invested effectively depending on its usage and the demands of inhabitants. This can help increase the effectiveness of running a city and saving a lot of resources. In addition, owing to the close locations of establishments, such as offices, schools, and plants, not only businesses can connect and cooperate effectively, but shipping costs can also be reduced, resulting in an increase in economic efficiency, accelerating the developmental rate.
In conclusion, while the arrangement of segregating facilities can put a huge pressure on the traffic infrastructure, it can bring about certain advantages, such as enhancing the citizens’ life quality and boost the economic efficiency and urban management.
