It is argued that students become overly dependent on digital devices and it affects their reading and writing skills. Some people claim that teachers should prevent children using computers at school and teach only in traditional ways to improve their basic study skills. However, Personally I believe that using computers in class should be permitted as it will not affect their reading skills and they will be able to master typing skill though their writing skill may be affected.
First and foremost, using digital devices does not have negative impacts on the reading skills since children can read from numerous websites, applications, and e-books. It is because there are many online educational resources which are free, easily accessible, and reliable. For instance, according to one of the BBC news, it shows that reading rate of the children who use computer has jumped by approximately 10% during a century. In fact, it becomes easier to read online than finding a library or a book shop.
Secondly, the typing skill is more crucial than traditional writing skills in this digital age. It is to say that people can still be employed even if they do not have good writing skills. Moreover, the typing skill is one of the essential skills which youths should have. For example, data from the World Workers’ Association claims that there is a higher chance to be promoted at work if the individual possesses digital skills such as being able to use Microsofts fluently and being able to type fast. Apparently, they recommend teenagers to learn these skills more than the traditional skills.
To conclude, although depending too much on computers may have some downsides for young people, in my opinion, I strongly disagree to change the teaching methods back into the traditional style.
