The two maps illustrate the shift in the town of Oxton and its surroundings over a period of 30 years. It is clear that the area has become more modern and convenient.
Overall, the most noticeable changes include the development of the north and surrounding simplification. Additionally, stuffs experienced notable modifications, while some areas remained unchanged.
Thirty years ago, Oxton was a quieter place with a swimming pool near the river and large areas of woods and flower gardens. There was only one car park, located near the railway station, and public footpaths were limited.
However, in the present time, several major changes can be seen. The swimming pool has been replaced by a leisure centre, and more shops have been built along the main road. In addition, two new car parks have been constructed, one near the river and another close to the supermarket, making the town more convenient for drivers. The tram line has also been added, which connect different parts of the town more easily. Although the castle still remains in the same location, much of the green space have disappeared. In general, Oxton has become more developed but less natural than before.
