The images illustrate how Oxton town has changed over the past thirty years. Overall, the town infrastructure is located surrounding a curved river. Additionally, new footpaths have been constructed alongside the river, and some new facilities have also been built.
Regarding the town’s layout 30 years ago, on the south bank of the river, there were trees, while a castle and a supermarket were located on the other side. On the south bank and to the west, there was a swimming pool that was opposite the mentioned castle. As for roads, May Avenue divided the area into two parts: the northwest region and the southeast region. Another road originating to the southeast was separated into two sections, with one running parallel to the May Avenue called Castle Street ( as it led to the castle), and the other named Pallant Road. Finally, a railway line and its station that ran west-east were placed in the southern area, whilst a line of shops was situated alongside May Avenue.
As for the transformation, all the woods have been cut down, making room for newly added flower gardens. Three car parks have been constructed, one near the railway station, one near the supermarket, and the third one on the north bank, which can be accessed through Pallant Road. Additionally, a leisure centre has replaced the former swimming pool. As mentioned earlier, two footpaths have been built on both river banks.
