The charts illustrate the levels of education among residents of Glasgow in 2010, broken down by age group and gender.
Overall, younger people were far more likely to hold university degrees, while the proportion of individuals with no qualifications increased significantly with age. In terms of gender, men and women showed broadly similar educational patterns, with only minor differences.
Looking first at age groups, around 70-78% of people aged 16-50 had a university degree, whereas this figure dropped sharply to 50% for those aged 50-75, and only 25% among the 75+ group. By contrast, the percentage of people with no qualifications rose steadily with age, reaching a peak of 72% in the oldest group. School certificates accounted for a relatively small share across all ages, generally remaining below 20%.
Regarding gender, women were slightly more likely than men to hold a university degree approximately 30% compared to 32% for men while men had a marginally higher proportion with no qualifications. The share of people holding school certificates was almost identical for both genders.
