The given chart illustrates the proportion of children aged 11 to 16 attending to school in the UK in 2013 using different modes of transport, according to distance.
Overall, it is clear that, walking was the most popular method for short distance, while buses were mainly used for longer travels , cycling was the least common mode .
To begin with one mile,a large number of pupils walked to school stood at just above 80%. This figure dropped significantly to approximately 60% in 1-2 miles and about 30% for 2-5 miles . Almost no children walked more than five miles. In terms of bicycle accounted for a small percentage in all distance categories remained just below 10%.
As for car , only almost 10% of youngsters travelled by car for distances just under 1 mile , but this rate increased steadily to 40% for journeys of 2-5 miles and 30% for distances over 5 miles . Regarding with bus , the share of travelling long distance nearly 70% of children using buses for 5 miles.
