Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing to request an extension of time for the books I borrowed from the school library last week. I will be unable to return them at the stipulated time due to unforeseen reasons.

I am a third year student at the college who have been utilizing the library correctly for the past three year. This time, unfortunately, I had to make an impromptu journey out of the country because news reached me that my father and only surviving relative was gravely injured after a ghastly accident. I was so devastated and disoriented that I took the next available flight to Ghana without putting things in order here first.

The books I took from the school were just on my table when I left, so mailing them is not possible that is why I am seeking for a two-weeks extension of the return date in order to personally bring them back. I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and promise to bring them back in perfect condition.
