The line chart illustrates the percentage of five activites that old-people do in thier breaktime in the US from 1980 to 2010.
In general , a period of significant fluctuation was observed in 5 activites except for hiking , which increased gradually . While the situation of 4 catagories , namely, reading , hiking , going to theatre and watching TV changed considerably , surfing the internet made up the lowest proportion over 40 years .
Regarding the activites having the higher percentage , the proportion of hiking began at 20 percent in 1980 and was the second-lowest figure in five catagories , then it climbed sharply and hitted the highest point of 80 percent. Although watching TV was the highest proportion in the five activities in 1980 at 60 percent and had a growth , this figure in 2010 was the second-highest at above 65 percent because of a decrease progessively from 2000 to 2010.
Concerning the remaining catagories , in 1980 ,going to theatre accounted for a half of percentage , before decreasing to 30 percent in 1990 , it went up to about 45 per cent in 2010 . Meanwhile , the proportion of reading fluctuated significantly around 20 percent and 40 percent , this followed by a considerable growth to 60 percent .Moreover ,surfing the Internet was the least popular activities at under 10 percent in 1980 , then it increased dramatically to 50 percent in 2010 after climbing sightly to approximately 15 percent in 2000
