Overall, the percentage of the people in the UK who preferred to watch movies at the cinema and at home was changing throughout the year from 1997 to 2021.
Initially, in the year 1997, residents of the Uk liked to watch movies at the cinemas up until 2006. Highest number of residents preferred watching movies at cinemas in 1997 with the percentage of around 75%. In contrast, only 24% of people watched movies at home. However, the percentage of citizens watching films at cinema halls decreased and at home increased until the year 2006. By 2009, the figure was equal, 50% of the UK citizens stayed at home to watch movies, whereas 50% were at the cinema halls.
In 2012, the number of people who preferred to watch movie at home increased significantly and reached to approximately 72%, while the number decreased dramatically at cinemas.
By 2015, maximum number of the people watched movies at their own houses with 71%. Between 2015 to 2018, the ratio was almost constant with more people liking to see movies at their homes. By the year 2021, the figure of the UK citizens watching movies at homes was still higher than at the cinemas.
