Some people argue that active stimulation for our brain, such as reading and playing nonogram, it is the best way to spending leisure time. Nevertheless, other people claim that relaxation is more important. This essay will discuss both perspectives and provide my own opinion.
On the one hand, those who advocate for mental development during leisure time often point out that keeping the mind active is essential for long-term cognitive health and preventing memory decline. In other words, when people play intellectual games in free time, they improve their neural connections by training the brain. For example, as scientists says, mathematical tasks protect from mental disease named Alzheimer. Consequently, individuals who spend their leisure time for learning something new or doing puzzles they have low risks of getting mental disease in old ages.
On the other hand, an opposing school of thought suggests that it is important to rest the mind during leisure time. The underlying reason for this is that people already face a lot of problems every day when require high brain activity. More specifically, the human brain requires periods of absolute rest to doesn’t burn out and doesn’t get sick from fatigue. For instance, simultaneous interpreter use their brain potential for 100% during the work day and after that need rest. Consequently, engaging in purely relaxing activities becomes essential for such professionals to restore their cognitive functions and maintain long-term mental condition. As for me, I prefer to spend my leisure time on activities that stimulate the mind, because my current job is quite repetitive, and I need a change of pace.
Having considered both sides, it is clear that everything is individual, while some people need rest after high brain activities in the job, others need more engaging in brain-enhancing activities.
