Some teenagers commit serious crimes such as assault or vandalism, which raises the question of whether they should receive the same punishment as adults. Some people believe that teenagers who commit serious crimes should be punished like adults. They argue that a strong punishment can prevent other young people from committing crimes. For example, if a teenager commits a violent crime, some people think severe punishments, such as long prison sentences or even the death penalty, should apply just as they do for adults.
However, others disagree with this view. They believe teenagers are still developing mentally and emotionally, so they may not fully understand the consequences of their actions. Instead of severe punishments, they suggest alternatives like house arrest, counseling, or rehabilitation programs. In cases related to family problems or child abuse, punishment or abuse may not solve the real issue.
In my opinion, teenagers should not always receive the same punishments as adults. They should be held responsible for their actions, but the justice system should focus more on rehabilitation and help them change their behavior.
