Parents should get punishment in some ways if their children break the law. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
In the contemporary world, society can observe moral decline in some children’s behaviour that leads to correctional facilities. Many people are in the position of judging, while some of them claim that it’s fair for their parents to get punished. I believe parents should take responsibility for their children including their prohibited actions.
Although the statement of teenagers’ “independence” and ability to think critically is a widely accepted belief, underage lawbreakers are still biologically undeveloped. As long as the child’s prefrontal cortex is not fully functioning as an adult’s, this young individual can’t analyze the situation in a logical way. Before 18 or as some studies say even 22, the human’s organism is still developing which can lead to hormonal imbalances. In this period, children are vulnerable enough to misinterpret things that are happening around them: harmful habits, troubled companies and risky ways to make extra money.
From the perspective of the law and sociology, children are fully dependent on many factors from their legal guardians. Their upbringing shapes the children’s mental development and law-abiding behaviour. Furthermore, parents give them an environment that also influences children’s understanding of the world. To prevent their minors from court proceedings, parents should not only avoid their children from destructive occasions, but also give them favorable surroundings. If these conditions are not met, it’s absolutely proper to give penalties to parents.
In conclusion, sending immature minors to jail is the crime of humanity. Society should consider not the punishment of the child, but to seek for his rehabilitation. I do not agree that children should take responsibility for themselves. Despite the fact that they may seem grown-up to make decisions, they should not be affected by punishment from government.
