The bar chart below shows the most popular film genres among men and women in the USA in 2010, while the pie chart illustrates the money earned from five film categories. Overall, two genders had different tastes, with men proffering action, and women favouring romantic comedy, and action films accounted for the largest proportion of ticket sales.
As regards the bar chart, action was on the top among men with 40 preferences, and 25 women, by contrast the romantic comedy was the most liked by women with 30, and 5 men watchers. Comedy comes next being preferred by 20 men and 20 women. Thrillers are three times as popular as romantic comedy among men and just one tenth of women opted for this genre. The least popular is science fiction for both genders with overall 15 watchers, making it slightly less popular than western with 20 preferences in total.
In terms of pie chart, almost half of earnings came from action films, which was almost twice as popular as comedy with a quarter. Despite romantic comedies being the most popular genre for women, they only accounted for 12% of total box-office takings. It was just ahead of thrillers with a tenth. This is followed by other types of films at just 5%.
