Some people argue that visitors from overseas should be charged more than local residents to visit historical and cultural attractions. Personally, I disagree with this view.
It is true that some people’s argumentation regarding charging some people paying more than local people have shortsighted view. A small number of visitors who are charged more may be seen as contributors to country’s economy. For example, people who become victims of this unfairness may refuse to re-visit the country where they were obligated to pay more than local residents for the same service for no obvious reason. Consequently, tourism industry may undergo a remarkable crisis.
Moreover, people who advocate for charging travellers more may cite the amount of taxes they are paying to preserve those tourist attractions. However, local people should be happy to subsidize their country to flourish the economy. For example, countries that charge tourists with the same amount regardless of their nation are likely to attract a greater number of people. In addition, a greater number of people may result in a larger amount of expenditure which enhances country’s economy. If overseas visitors stop coming there would be a risk to maintaning those cultural attractions.
In conclusion, I believe all the effort should be made to attract tourists and charging them more would be counterproductive.
