There is an ongoing debate about legal systems around the world. Some people argue that one legal system should be established across the world, as it can significantly reduce crime rates. Conversely, others contend that every country should have their own legal framework, because the rights of individuals can be infringed. Meanwhile, I personally believe that every country should have its own judicial system.
It is a fair suggestion that establishing a unified justice system can affect global crime rates. As far as I am concerned, it is likely that this legal system will be created by countries with low crime rates, such as the US or the UK, with well-developed and effective laws. Indeed, if vague laws in underdeveloped countries are replaced by stronger restrictions, the level of crime will decrease dramatically. For example, in the 19th century India was a colony of the United Kingdom. According to statistics, as India obtained independence and created its own legal framework, the level of crime increased sharply. Therefore, one legal system across the globe might have a direct impact on crime rates.
Although there is some truth to this idea, it is also true to say that different countries have their own expectations about ideal legal systems. This could be explained by the fact that one legal framework may always be irrelevant for particular countries, as different nations have their own culture and moral principles. To elaborate, citizens in countries, such as Vatican or Saudi Arabia, live according to their faith and laws in other regions may seem outrageous to them. For instance, in France, the government has enforced a policy against wearing hijab, while in Eastern countries, such clothes are an indispensable part of women’s daily lives. Thus, if one justice system is created, it is likely that it can infringe several nations’ rights.
In conclusion, although I acknowledge that having one judicial framework throughout the world can contribute to reducing illegal acts, I support the view that countries should have their own justice system, because of different moral values and expectations.
