In contemporary society, many people argue that discipline is the sole responsibility of educators, while others believe that it is primarily the duty of parents. Although both play an important part in a child’s development, I believe that parents bear the greater responsibility.
Educators are responsible in maintaining discipline within school premises, as they spend a significant amount of time interacting with students. Since learners are away from home, teachers are responsible for shaping appropriate behavior by establishing clear rules that must be followed and addressing misconduct promptly. As a result, students are more likely to become self-disciplined, behave responsibly, and contribute to a well-organized and safe learning environment.
On the other hand, parents play a crucial role in shaping a child’s behaviour through consistent supervision and guidance. From an early age, they are able to discipline children by teaching them to distinguish between right and wrong, thereby preventing negative habits from developing. For example, children can be taught that actions such as stealing or hurting others are unacceptable, whereas qualities like kindness and honesty should be encouraged. As a result, this early guidance fosters self-discipline and a strong sense of responsibility for their actions, both of which are essential for their overall personal and social development.
In conclusion, although teachers play a significant role in maintaining discipline in the classroom, it is primarily the responsibility of parents to instill discipline in their children from an early age.
