There is no doubt that these days life expectancy has increased significantly in many countries. The question is whether this trend leads to certain problems and how these issues can be addressed. In this essay I am going to discuss the main problems behind this and suggest some possible solutions.
In term of problems of the increasing life expectancy, the main reasons given to support this claim is that long living population puts a huge pressure on healthcare systems. To illustrate, older people usually need more medical care, which automatically increases the demands on doctors and hospitals. In other words, governments may face difficulties in providing enough healthcare services. Another problem faces the country is the financial pressure on the payment budget because of the pension systems. This is because a large number of retired people depends on small numbers of working population.
However, there is some solutions that can be taken into consideration to solve these problems. Firstly, government should invest more in preventive healthcare. In other words, encouraging people to live a healthy lifestyle can reduce the need for expensive treatments and medicine. Secondly, increasing the retirement age can also help to reduce the pressure on the pension systems. This is because individuals will work longer and contribute in the economy wheel. Also, Policy makers can encourage older people to work part-time jobs to stay active and help themselves.
In Conclusion, although living longer can causes problem to the countrys’ economy such as pressuring on the healthcare and pension systems, there are several significant and effective solutions that can be done to solve these issues. Therefore, I believe that adequate planning and government action plans can help to overcome and address these difficulties and create a balanced society.
