International exchange meetings are widely believed to be beneficial for teenagers at school. From my standpoint, the advantages of this trend definitely outweigh the disadvantages.
One of the most compelling arguments in favor of international exchange visits is cultural sensitivity and language acquisition. Immersing oneself in a different culture will create the opportunity to experience diverse perspectives, lifestyle and, furthermore, aid dismantle stereotypes. As a result, school teenagers will be able to gain invaluable experience, broaden their horizons, along with promoting personal growth. Apart from that, constant talks with natives allows students to acquire collocations and idioms, which are not learned in traditional methods. This inevitably leads not only to fostering intercultural understanding, but also enhancing language proficiency.
On the other hand, there are some potential drawbacks that should be noted, such as psychological strain and financial constraints. Teenagers can face some challenges as homesickness, particularly, with the combination of “culture shock” that results in feeling of isolation and anxiety, affecting directly to students’ academic performance. Moreover, exchange programs may limit participation for some students, due to their high cost.
Despite the aforementioned disadvantages, that be effectively overcome with proper planning and support from international organizations, the personal maturity and academic enrichment gained through such visits will be highly valued ever.
Taking everything into consideration, the advantage of this trend outweigh the disadvantages, due to the personal and educational benefits for school teenagers.
