Band 8+: In years 'responsible tourists' try to pay more attention to preserving both the culture and the environment of the place they visit. However, some believe that it is impossible to be a 'responsible tourist'. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Some people believe that “responsible tourists” respect the culture and nature of the countries they visit. Others think it is impossible to be a “responsible tourist.” I fully believe that it is possible to be a “responsible tourist” by respecting the dress code – one of the key elements of a country’s remarkable culture – and by disposing of waste in designated areas after enjoying the country’s beautiful nature.

Tourists do their best to respect the culture of the country they visit. In particular, tourists try to follow the dress code, which is an inseparable part of that country’s culture. Since the style of dress has been shaped over hundreds of years as an integral part of local values, locals tend to dislike tourists who do not observe their dress code. To prevent this, “responsible tourists” should research the country before traveling and bring clothing that does not contradict the country’s values. Additionally, after arriving in the country, tourists can also purchase locally appropriate clothing there. As an example, looking at the cultures of Eastern and Islamic countries, people in these societies have for centuries dressed in covered and loose-fitting garments. Wearing clothing that contradicts this culture – or people who do so – are viewed as disruptive in such value-oriented communities. In conclusion, tourists can show their respect for a country’s culture and its people by adhering to the local dress code.

Among tourists, visiting natural sites for relaxation has become increasingly popular. Since every country has a different geographical setting, the diversity of their nature attracts visitors, leading them to discover mountain slopes, hills, meadows, and waterways for themselves. Tourists may also dine individually or in groups in these locations. In such situations, “responsible tourists” either take their waste with them after eating or dispose of it in designated areas. This reflects the tourists’ respect for the country itself and perhaps for its nature as well. For example, Japanese “responsible tourists” always demonstrate their respect for the countries they visit and for nature by taking their leftover waste with them or disposing of it in designated places. By enjoying nature while also taking their waste with them or disposing of it properly, tourists show their respect for the country and its natural environment.

**In conclusion, tourists demonstrate their respect for the culture and nature of the countries they visit by wearing clothing that does not conflict with national values and by taking their waste with them or disposing of it in designated areas.**
