Many people believe that visitors to other countries should completely adapt to the local customs and behavior, while host countries don’t need to accept different traditions. However, I strongly disagree with this opinion, because cultural diversity should be respected by everyone and mutual understanding is necessary in modern society.
Firstly, expecting foreigners to abandon their own customs is unfair. Every person has a unique cultural background that forms their identity and values. When people travel or move abroad, they should certainly respect local laws and important traditions, but this does not mean they must hide their own culture. For example, many international students and workers celebrate their national holidays and wear traditional clothes in foreign countries. These activities help preserve cultural heritage and don’t usually harm local communities.
Secondly, host countries can benefit greatly from accepting different customs and behaviors. Cultural diversity introduces new ideas, food, art, and perspectives, which can enrich society and improve communication between nations. Countries such as Canada and Australia are good examples of multicultural societies where people from different backgrounds live together peacefully. As a result, This nations are often considered more open minded and attractive to tourists and skilled workers.
In conclusion, although visitors should respect the traditions of the countries they visit, I believe it is unreasonable to expect them to completely adapt while the host countries refuses to accept cultural differences. In today’s globalized world, both visitors and local people should learn to respect each other’s customs.
