The bar chart illustrates the percentages of children in three age groups (5-8, 9-11 and 12-15 years old) who participated in four leisure activities in a European country in 2009.
Overall, watching TV was the most popular activity among younger children, whereas riding bikes was preferred by teenagers. In contrast, participation in video games declined with age, while cycling showed an upward trend.
Watching television accounted for the highest proportion in all age groups, particularly among 5-8-year-olds, at approximately 95%. The figures for the two older groups were lower but similar, standing at around 80%. Reading comics showed relatively stable participation, with roughly 62% of younger children engaging in this activity, compared with approximately 65% in both older groups.
A different pattern can be observed in video games and cycling. Around 60% of children aged 5-8 played video games, compared with just under 60% of those aged 9-11 and only about 40% of teenagers. By contrast, riding bikes became increasingly popular with age, rising from around 67% among the youngest group to approximately 82% among 12-15-year-olds.
