Most of the cities are facing with the overcrowded traffic issue due to increase of private vehicle population. In order to this, banning all private cars from the traffic is a crucial debate topic among society. some people argue that individual vehicles had a considerable impact on air pollution, urban congestion, and voice pollution; while others argue that replacing private cars with public transportation won’t fix the problem. Besides, it will bring new other issues together. This essay will explore both perspectives and ultimately articulate a clear position on why governments shouldn’t ban all private vehicles from their centrall buisness districts.
On one hand, proponents argue that even it seems like it has a lot od advantages, banning individual’s cars from traffic won’t solve the traffic jam and urban congestion issue. In addition, replacing them with the public shuttle services might be work in small urban areas but there is no doubt that this solution is not going to work on crowded and large surface area cities such as London, Istanbul, and Barcelona. For example, in London, to acces to the city centre from the rural areas by public transport takes considerable amount of time and effort. Besides, imagine that people are carries heavy bags or stuffes. As a result of it, citizens prefers to use private cars to increase their own comfort already. Therefore, governments may justifiably not let this policy work for the own sake of its citizens.
On the other hand, opponents argue that banning all private vehicles and replacing them with public transportation will help to reduce urban congestion. Also, well organized public shuttles will be a good opportunity for local citizens to access everywhere in the city instead of cars. In addition, as a another advantage, usage of public transportation had a economic impact on society’s budget indeed. For instance, private vehicle prices are increasing due to inflation. As a result of it, not every family able to provide that money for a private car. Thus, banning individual’s cars will help everyone equally to access everywhere with low prices. However, even some points may be true, there is no doubt that only using public transport will be expensive also because the government should provide shuttles every corner of the city. So, the state should take money from citizens to balance expenditure of those public transport vehicles. Therefore, banning all private cars policy might seem sustainable at first, but it has more disadvantages than it’s advantages. This policy is not a permanent solution for urban congestion issue.
In conclusion, the government should not limit the access for owning a private vehicle to prevent other issues such as air pollution, and traffic jam because this will bring new problems together with. Moreover, the state should increase the taxes to pay the expenditures of replacing private cars with transportation vehicles. Therefore, this policy is not sustainable and its disadvantages outweigh the advantages.
