The table compares the percentages of mobile phone owners using six features in 2006, 2008, and 2010.
Overall, making calls remained the most common function, while searching the internet and recording video experienced the sharpest increases. Interestingly, gaming was the only feature to decline between 2008 and 2010.
Making calls stayed near-universal, at 100% in 2006 and 2008, falling just 1% by 2010. In contrast, sending texts rose steadily from 73% to 79%, overtaking taking photos in 2006 (66%), though photo use later climbed to 76% by 2010.
The most striking growth was in internet use, which jumped from 41% in 2008 to 73% in 2010 – almost doubling. Similarly, video recording surged from 9% to 35% over the same period. Playing music also increased gradually, from 12% to 26%. By comparison, playing games rose sharply from 17% to 42% between 2006 and 2008, but then slightly dropped to 41% in 2010, making it the only feature to lose users in the final period.
