Overall, Turkey took the lead in the importation of the quantity of lemons and grapefruits while South Africa was the leading orange importer. Notably, Mexico ranked first in the importation of other types of citrus fruits although they were out of top in lemons, grapefruits and oranges.
Regarding the fruits where Turkey is the largest importer, this nation imported the greatest number of lemons with 500 thousand metric tons. The figure for Mexico was slightly lower, staying at 450 thousand metric tons and far surpassed 250 thousand metric tons of Argentina. Besides lemons, Turkey was also the leading exporter in grapefruits, standing at around 175 thousand metric tons, doubling more than 80 thousand metric tons of South Africa. Meanwhile, the United States’ grapefruits exports were the lowest among three nations, registering 75 thousand metric tons.
In terms of Oranges and other types of citrus fruits, South Africa topped the list, with 1000 thousand metric tons of oranges being imported , which was much higher than that of Egypt (900 thousand metric tons) and the United States (700 thousand metric tons). While Mexico dominated in other types of citrus fruits and stood at 450 thousand metric tons, the United States and Israel imported negligible quantity with only 1 thousand metric tons for both.
