In this contemporary society, travelling by air is omnipresent. While some advocate for the proliferation of air travel, others propose that this service aggravates environmental problems. Personally, I support the former perspective, and my justifications are as follows.
On the one hand, a group of people believes that the ubiquity of cheap air travel can exacerbate the urgent air pollution. Undoubtedly, there is an inextricable link between exhaust fumes released from transportation and the polluted air. With giant machines like airplanes, discharging poisonous smoke into the environment is inevitable. However, this line of reasoning is not sound, as planes are often considered less harmful than private vehicles such as motorbikes or cars. For instance, an airplane that consists of about 200 customers is more environmentally-friendly, compared to 200 people driving different private motorized transportation.
Meanwhile, some individuals opine that those who travel by airplanes may encounter inherent risks. If any unexpected circumstance happens, all people in the plane may have to face serious fear, which can engender heart stroke or respiratory issues. Furthermore, when an airplane suffers from severe technical malfunction, it may result in calamitous injuries or even deaths. However, the possibility of this event pales in comparison with the frequency of traffic accidents. To exemplify, around 16,000 traffic collisions are recorded in Vietnam only in the year 2024, while the number of airplane accidents is significantly low.
On the other hand, I am convinced that cheap airlines offer wide-ranging benefits. This is because low-cost air travel can aid individuals in visiting various destinations in a short amount of time. So, travellers can move around quickly without having to cope with long-term traffic congestions. Another key rationale is that, by encouraging cheap air travel, numerous countries can attract tourists from around the world and bolster their tourism industry. Owing to this, a country’s culture and historical sites may be widespread, which can generate job opportunities and effectively contribute to that country’s economic growth.
In conclusion, while there are opinions that cheap air travel takes a heavy toll on the environment , I would contend that low-cost airlines not only support customers in travelling more conveniently, but also provide them with a chance to be exposed to different cultures and traditions, creating great contributions to the betterment of the economic status.
