It is often argued that parents should encourage their children to spend more time on doing physical acivities than studying. While I agree with this view to some extent, I believe that children should maintain a balance between studying and doing exercise. This essay will discuss both perspectives before explaining why I only partly agree.
On the one hand, I agree that parents should encourage their children to do regular exercise for two main reasons. Firstly, exercise is beneficial for young people’s physical and mental health. This is because regular physical activity strengthens muscle and bones, which is crucial for growing bodies. As a result, children can grow up healthier and stronger. For example, regular activity relieves stress, improves mood, and increases productivity at school. Secondly, exercise can assist people live longer and productive lives. This is because physical activities may reduce the risk of many chronic diseases, such as obesity, diabetes, and heart disease. A good example is someone who replaces a sedentary lifestyle with daily walks and cycling, which helps them maintain a healthy weight and reduce the risk of diabetes.
On the other hand, I believe that this statement is not completely accurate. To begin with, studying gives children greater educational and career opportunities. A strong educational background helps them enter prestigious universities and acquire valuable qualifications. Consequently, they are more likely to find stable, well-paid jobs and enjoy a higher quality of life in adulthood. For instance, many successful professionals, such as doctors and engineers, achieved their careers because they studied hard from a young age. Another reason is that children can develop a broad range of knowledge and critical thinking skills. Learning different subjects exposes them to new ideas and teaches them how to analyse information and solve problems. As a result, they become more independent learners and are better prepared for future academic challenges. For example, children who study mathematics and science learn to think logically and apply these skills to everyday situations.
In conclusion, although I recognise that doing physical activities is essential for children, I believe that studying should not be neglected. Therefore, it is necessary to maintain a balance between activities and studies.
