Product promotions often prevent individuality and makes people look the same. I partially agree with this statement since particular items may become a trend after being advertised, but many individuals in present days spend more on their needs than unnecessary things.
Advertising manipulates people as its aim is to persuade people that buying a product will make them happier. As people nowadays live in a consumer culture, they can easily be influenced to follow the latest trends, and also associate certain brands with a higher status. For example, a fashion brand hires a celebrity as the ambassador to advertise a new series concept, people would be easily guided to chase the trend to ensure their social connection with other people. Eventually, because many individuals own a lot of same clothes which cause them to look alike.
However, advertising is not only negative, but also beneficial as it informs people about available choices they have. It is a creative form for businesses to show what kind of products they have for customers and help them meet their daily needs. For example, advertisements for health supplements, people would choose what kind of external supports they need. This kind of sales do not lead to individuals looking the same since everyone would consume different supplements according to their body conditions. Therefore, it is not absolute that all people will end up losing their individuality due to advertisements.
In conclusion. I partially agree the statement that advertisement takes away individuals’ personalities due to its manipulations towards people. However, I think it is also important to appreciate that without advertising, people would have less choice for some necessities or requirements in their daily life.
