It is a widespread phenomenon in many countries that there is a lack of students choosing to study science subjects as their main major. From my perspective, there are several reasons for this tendency including the difficulty of studying and job opportunities. Moreover, its impact on society should not be overlooked.
To begin with, science subjects aie not considered as first choice in the study field due to the demanding situations, in which learners have to face. It is apparent that a major in science consists of specialized knowledge and experiments. Thus, students are required to put much effort in order to understand or handle the task well. Researches have shown that most individuals studying science have to conduct various trials and spend most of the time in the laboratory. Consequently, they are prevented from having free time to spend on their own hobbies and relax. In addition, learners are less likely to select this major as there are few employment chances available for the graduates. As a result, pupils tend to study other subjects, which allows them to have a career easily.
The effects of this trend are extensive and multifaceted. Firstly, the fewer students decide to learn science, the fewer employees working in these majors. This leads to a downfall in technological developments as well as an insufficiency of people’s quality of life. Secondly, there would be a crisis of employment for citizens when most of them choose popular fields such as economy or business. However, the number of job vacancies is limited leading to a surge in unemployment. Therefore, this creates burden on society and stagnates the enhancement.
In conclusion, there are some main elements causes the shortage of students choosing science field and this problem might bring some
negative influence in both the society and everyone.
