There can be no doubt that the topic of teaching language in schools is one which deserves some analysis. It is the opinion of this writer that the weight of evidence tips the scale toward who believe small classes come with a better quaility, despite some reservations.
Those who champion low student quantity classes point to teaching quaility. This is due to the fact that language pedagogy requires interactions between instructor and students. Because of this, small classes show advantages because student have more time and more chance to practice in front of the class. This is supported by a recent study by UNESCO which indicated that 80% of students asked found that it is easier to focus in smaller size classes.
There is an alternative point of view, which holds that the realistic of education system. It cannot be denied that forgein language teacher is in huge shortage. It should also be mentioned that small size class require more class in total to fulfill students’ demand. As a result, some student, especially those who living in suburban or undeveloped area, may not have access to language classes.
This writer suppports the former opinion on the grounds that quaility is over quanity. The explanation to this is that small classes is where future language teacher came. One should also note that only student who have a good foundation in language can teach language. Speaking in long – term, smaller classes would solve the problems of teacher shortage.
Thus it can be seen that some student would have limited access to language class is outweighed by teaching quaility and preparing for future language teacher forces. Therefore there is ample evidence to conclude that smaller classes is a better choice.
