The line graph illustrates how the proportions of a museum’s visitors coming at least once a year measuring by age varied every five years from 1980 to 2010. Overall, the over 50 age group witnessed a decline in its rate, while the other cohorts maintained a respective level across the given timeframe. Notably, the oldest group ranked first in terms of museum visit rates and the contrast appealled between the age group of 15 – 24 and over 50 cohort.
The people between 15-24 and those over 50 had their rates conversely in the surveyed period. In 1980, the youngest age group was 20%, before rising steadily to around 25% in 1990. It remained relatively stable until 2005, then experienced a moderate drop to its initial level. On the other hand, the people over 50 started with the highest rate around 48% in 1980 and witnessed a slight increase to approximately 50% in 5 years later. Afterward, its rate underwent a downward trajectory to 40% in 2010. Despite this declined, it still ranked first in terms of museum’s visitors rate.
The other middle age groups experienced a similar trend. They both began at around 38%, before fell moderately to 30% in 1990. Thereafter, they exhibited an upward trajectory by varying extents. The age group of 25-34 and 35-49 increased to 40% and 48% respectively, and both remained stable for 10 years period, before experienced a small downturn to theirs initial level.
