It is true that the question of whether to explore the universe or not remains a source of controversy in the scientific field. While a number of people believe that the authorities should allocate money to look for life on other planets, I would argue that societal issues in our planet have to be the primary concern.
On the one hand, the idea of extraterrestrial life is attractive for several reasons related to educational knowledge and human existence. Firstly, exploring other planets is an opportunity for scientists to create breakthroughs in scientific growth. This is mainly because findings can bring plenty of advancements in technology and enhance people’s understanding about the universe outside the Earth. Another reason is ensuring the long-term survival of humanity. With the expansion of population in our planet, there are a lot of challenges regarding housing, food resources and natural disasters, leading to the fact that other planets can be a potential life for humans in the future.
On the other hand, there are a variety of reasons why I believe that governments should spend the financial budget for existing problems in our society. The main one is that in lieu of researching space life which can leave several uncertain results, the immediate earthly difficulties must be resolved, such as poverty, climate change or health crises. For example, after a long period of Covid-19, the unemployment rate has been increasing, which requires governments to tackle in the short time to improve the economic condition. Furthermore, space exploration is extremely expensive and the current technology may not be advanced enough for the meaningful discoveries for the search of life on other planets. As a result, all the national funds should be invested into more immediate and tangible benefits, such as improving education or healthcare systems.
In conclusion, while there are many benefits regarding space exploration for future’s life, I contend that addressing the essential issues on the Earth should be our main focus. It is advisable that governments prioritize the stable life and welfare of inhabitants rather than the ambition to pursue knowledge beyond our world.
