Band 7+: employers sometimes ask people applying for jobs for personal information, such as their hobbies and interest and whether they are married or single.some people say that this ingormation is relevent or usefull.others disagree

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Many believe that inclusion of personal information such as hobbies, personal interests, and relationship status is necessary for companies to ask for employment. However, some disagree with this trend. I agree that it is necessary to include personal details because they impact a company’s revenue and profitability.

The relevance of asking for personal information during a job application is much required because of the job prospects. For instance, a customer service representative is required to have an outgoing personality and good communication skills. Imagine a situation where customer service attendants are rude and lazy, which can cause distress for customers, ultimately leading to the company’s poor performance. Therefore, if a person is interested in hobbies like public speaking, team sports will likely have solid collaborative and communication skills. Indeed these skills are crucial for public-facing careers. Thus, asking about a person’s hobbies and interests can give a glimpse of their personality and suitability for employment.

Conversely, many individuals find including personal information offensive and irrelevant to job applications. For example, if an employee is married, it is often interpreted as a busy and family oriented person. This means the particular individual has more chances of absence at work due to personal obligations. Comparatively, a single person is considered as more flexible in terms of their schedule and availability because of fewer or no family responsibilities. Hence, this information might create a biased and false persona of someone’s relationship status , which seems like unfair judgment, leading to a rejection during employment opportunities.

To conclude, private information should be included during job screening, as per many companies’ policies because candidates’ performance is directly related to business gainfulness. Thus, I think it should be mandatory to ask for personal interest and relationship tags to compare the suitability of applicants for the job.
