The internet is widely regarded as an innovation that has many advantages and has benefited humanity in various ways. However, some believe that the internet is a double-edged sword and has its downside as well. In my opinion, I believe that the advantage of Internet outweighs the disadvantages when in proper use.
On one hand, the Internet is said to have advantages as it serves as a massive information bank, allowing people from all over the world to have access to various information regardless of place and time. People are able to gain access to information ranging from educational to current events, facilitating personal development and continuous learning. For example, a student who is eager to acquire culinary skills is able to search up recipes and cooking videos effortlessly on the web, allowing external learning outside the school compound. Thus, it is evident that the Internet has provided people with convenient access to knowledge and empowering opportunities.
On the other hand, the Internet also has its downside. The internet has been shown to cultivate addiction and mental health issues. Excessive use of the Internet, namely social media correlates to issues such as addiction, anxiety and depression among youngsters. For instance, teenagers who are frequently exposed to unrealistic portrayals of lifestyle on the Internet may develop a longing for a materialistic life, leading to feeling inadequacy and subsequent mental distress. Misuse of the Internet could cause detrimental repercussions on an individual psychological well-being and social interaction.
In conclusion, the internet has both tremendous benefits and drawbacks. The key to maximizing the benefits while minimizing the drawbacks is the ethical use of the Internet by both individuals and corporations. Ultimately, the Internet remains as a powerful tool which when used wisely can greatly enhance our lives.
