Both maps demonstrate the Westley city before and after the development.
Looking from an overall perspective, it is clearly seen that the city witnessed dramatic changes over the period. A railway was constructed to the south of the Westley when trees on the left of the lake were chopped down and replaced with Housing Estate. Also, houses in the city centre were demolished in order to construct Business Area.
Moving to a more detailed analysis, fields, the bridge on the way to London and the western part of the road were removed due to the construction of the railway and the main railway station. Lord Westley’s house was replaced with The Red Lion and Hotel, while the lake, market, Town hall and the village to the northeast side of the city were the only parts which remained the same during the period.
In terms of other changes, the roadway was prolonged to the south of the city and ended at the Shopping, Business and Residential areas, while The Coach Inn was knocked down and replaced with 2 buildings as a private house, with sports center and museum.
