The bar chart above illustrates the proportion of sales for car manufacturers in various geographic regions between 2006 and 2010.
Overall, while car sales in Asia witnessed an upward trend, figures for North America took the opposite direction, and those for Europe and South America experienced some fluctuations. Initially, Europe held the top position but was then overtaken by Asia by the end of the time frame.
At the start of the period, Europe led the market with 34% of car sales, which were 4% and 10% higher than those of North America and Asia, respectively. South America accounted for a negligible percentage compared to other continents, just about one-tenth of the total sales.
Thereafter, there was a surge in car sales across Asia, which reached its highest point of 50% in 2010, while a dramatic decrease was observed in North America, ending the period at 9%. Meanwhile, Europe’s sales figures increased slightly, peaking at 38% in 2008 before modestly falling to 30% by the end. The trend for South America was completely opposite, with its figure declining to a low of 5% in 2009 but then recovering to 11% again one year later.
