Band 7+: Space exploration is a waste of money. Governments should focus more on addressing public problems instead. Do you agree or disagree?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

In the last decades, governing bodies have invested significant amounts of funds in space exploration, thereby neglecting common public issues. There is a view that allocating money to exploring the universe is a waste of funds, which clearly adapts to my current standpoint. I agree with this notion, as it highlights various uncertainties associated with space exploration and concerns more about real-time societal problems.

It is true that the scope of space exploration typically identifies the scientific, global, and financial states of a particular country. To be more precise, many countries, such as the USA or Russia, compete with their rivals to outperform one another. Space exploration is a prime example of this rivalry, as nations invest huge amounts of money into their programs to showcase their superiority by executing optimistic space missions or explorations. Consequently, other paramount public sectors, particularly healthcare and education, which are the cornerstones of development, are being overlooked. This imbalance in funding allocation hampers societal progress and perpetuates disparities in access to essential services.

Moreover, billions of dollars that are being spent on space exploration have still not revealed the unknown spaceship that was tracked by US military cameras in 2004. Twenty years ago, military pilots encountered a UFO (unknown flying object) during a training exercise. Until now, researchers have been unable to conclusively identify or explain the origins of the mysterious object, fueling ongoing speculation about its nature and origin. This real-life example challenges the perception of why allocating money for space exploration is justified.

In conclusion, I firmly believe that space exploration is a waste of money. Its impact has been debatable thus far, meaning funds could be used more wisely to alleviate some of the societal issues that worsen people’s lives.
