Band 6+: Some countries have introduced a law to limit the working hours for employees. Do you think that it is a positive or negative development?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Work plays a vital role in every human’s daily life. Some laws are implemented by a few nations to restrict the job hours. Although this development has sparked a discussion regarding its potential benefits or drawbacks. I am convinced that this represents a constructive perspective, and the reasons for the same are elaborated in the subsequent paragraphs.

Reducing working hours can be seen as a positive change because it helps to prevent companies from overworking their employees. While trying to increase profit, some sectors choose to invest less in hiring additional staff, and instead, they increase the workload of employees, which would directly delay these employees. Additionally, many individuals struggle to spend quality time with their families because of work-related stress, which can result in anxiety. By reducing work hours, employees would have the opportunity to enjoy more time with their loved ones. For example, a working mother could take her family out to a movie after business hours.

Furthermore, implementing these laws is to boost productivity. When people work for excessively long hours, it can actually hinder their efficiency. Those who put in longer hours often make more errors, get fatigued quickly, and may struggle with focus. By capping working hours, employees can perform their tasks more efficiently and effectively, resulting in enhanced productivity and higher quality work. Moreover, restricting employee working hours is to protect their physical and mental well-being. Working too many hours can create significant pressure, resulting in stress, which may contribute to a range of health problems. By setting a cap on working hours, we can help mitigate these risks. For instance, in Canada, regulations have been established to limit working hours, protecting employees from excessively long shifts.

To recapitulate, enabling employees to spend more time with their families while also enhancing their productivity. In my opinion, this represents a beneficial advancement, as it fosters a more balanced work-life dynamic and mitigates health issues.
