The images give detailed information about how the layout of a coal mine has developed. Overall, the comparison of both maps indicates that the area went from a primarily industrial zone to a full-fledged vacation spot, with construction of new facilities in terms of dining and entertaining.
Prior to the redevelopment, the area was mostly industrial with two waste pits occupying the entire eastern part and a mine entrance to their north-west. The mine entrance in turn was flanked by an office to its west and a medical room to its south. In the meantime, a parking lot could be found in the southwest corner of the area, neighboring staff’s changing room and a lorry park to its north and east respectively.
The area has undergone a complete makeover with some major changes and rearrangements to become a visitor attraction. The most striking change was the removing of the pits, medical room, and lorry park to accommodate a brand-new café, a driving truck track, and a picnic area, that were covered with a foot path. Along the southeast of the path a children’s playground was erected. Other facilities such as the mine entrance and the parking lot were not subject to change, but the former was repurposed for visitors.
