It is being argued, schools should pay more attention to providing academic knowledge to students, while others believe that teaching students more about practical skills is a much better option. Although having practical skills will help students perform their daily minor tasks correctly, it does not provide as much financial benefit as academic knowledge.
Teaching students practical skills like cooking, managing money, and fixing things can greatly improve their daily lives. Many adults struggle with budgeting, preparing meals, or repairing household equipment. Learning these skills early would allow students to handle such tasks independently and avoid unnecessary expenses. For example in Uzbekistan, before 1991 many schools taught students’ only about practical skills, therefore, in today’s world, in many local households, minor tasks especially like fixing something are only done by family members without spending additional money. I think owning these skills are essential for everyone but brings less profit compared to having a good academic performance.
Owning academic knowledge is very essential because vast majority of companies in today’s word are hiring staff only based on how well they are aware of math and science. Employees who have a wide range of skills in math and science will benefit the company by doing complex calculations effectively, and by managing people in a right way. For example, in companies like Google, only thing they check when hiring employees is ability to solve very sophisticated problems in math. That’s why I think schools should focus more on giving academic lessons to students so that they will get a huge advantage from it.
In conclusion, I believe practical skills are helpful in many daily life issues, but academic skills are much profitable, therefore schools should spend their energy more on math and science to teach students that students will get higher income in the future.
