It is common among students to take a gap year for travelling or gaining work experience before the beginning of the university. In my opinion, a year of working before starting university could be indeed a good idea, however, a year of travelling is a waste of time. The essay will discuss how can students take advantages of working for one year before starting their journey at the university.
A year of working before starting university can be beneficial for several reasons. First, it helps students to make a better decision regarding the desired field of study before entering the university. Secondly, students will be able to improve their resume through working in addition to gaining valuable hands-on experience. Having a stronger resume will increase the chance of admission at top-ranked universities. Finally, students can build relationships during their work, which is truly priceless for the future when they enter the job market.
Travelling, however, is not the best choice. While it is true that travelling might also provide students with new experiences and improve their skills, but they are not directly involved in an important transition phase like leaving high school and entering a university. Additionally, it is difficult and challenging for students to return to the academic environment after spending a whole year apart.
In conclusion, working experience before starting to study at university is a good decision. However, travelling is most likely time wasting. Students clearly benefit from working for a year before entering to the higher educational system by gaining valuable experience and enhancing the chance of entering world-class universities.
